T.O. Sterrett has worked in the NYC theatre scene for more than 25 years, including his work on Broadway as Pianist and Assistant Conductor for Wicked and as Associate Conductor for Shrek The Musical. He grew up in a musical family in northern Florida and attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, spending countless hours as Music Director for productions by the student musical theatre club Hoof ‘n’ Horn. Next was a few years working at various musical theatre jobs throughout the eastern United States, and then several years in Boston, where, among other things, he was vocal coach for Richard Greenberg and played and sang on various recordings and commercials. He then spent a year as a Music Director for Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis before moving into the theatre district of New York City.
In addition to his work in NYC as a vocal coach, he worked as a keyboard player, conductor, music director, and synthesizer programmer for national tours and off-Broadway shows. His first Broadway job was Pianist and Assistant Conductor for the hit show Cats, and he has worked at several other Broadway shows, including The Book of Mormon, The Phantom of the Opera, Matilda, Something Rotten, Mamma Mia! and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Mr. Sterrett has worked as Conductor for Tony Award winners Sutton Foster, Ali Stroker, Idina Menzel, Lindsay Mendez, Ben Vereen, Tommy Tune, Joel Grey, Kristin Chenoweth, George Hearn, Carole Shelley and Norbert Leo Butz. He has also worked as Conductor for Mandy Gonzalez, Daniel Breaker, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Megan Hilty, Brian d’Arcy James, Christopher Sieber, Teal Wicks, Liz Callaway, Bobby Cannavale, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Jennifer Simard, Saycon Sengbloh and many others. Additionally, he has played keyboard accompaniment for Stephanie J. Block, Christian Borle, Josh Gad, Gavin Creel, Carolee Carmello, Judy Kuhn, J.K. Simmons, Nikki James, Marty Moran, Gregg Edelman, and more.
